KING OF THE COURT 2005 - MOOMBA WATERFEST
Created by Andre Gorgievski
and David Coles
King of the Court is a free 3on3 basketball tournament
initiated by MSF and previously sponsored by Nike, for
players of all ages both male and female, to come together
and compete in a positive, exciting environment in front
of large crowds. |

KOTC - Moomba (Melbourne) 2005 proved that having an
outdoor court in the heart of the city would be a great
thing for the youth and the community, as thousands
of players and Melbournians flocked around the court
to join in on the action, get active or hang out for
some quality entertainment.
Just like last year with Nick Masunda, this year we
had another dual-king. Auryn MacMillan from Kilsyth
walked away with the 1on1 Title and his team "1800
Swish" took out the 3on3 Open-age Title. In the
13-15 3on3 division there were some solid teams in the
finals. Burra-Noski, Runners-up from last KOTC, came
close but once again were titled the Runners-up, being
defeated by young talents "Tha Trip" led by
Joel Naburgs, also from Kilsyth.
The girls division was great to get the females involved
as 4 teams played each day. While the Under 12 division
was mostly for young kids to get active and learn the
game, there was one team called "Not 4 Sale"
that played a few games and remained undefeated. These
11 year old kids were selected for the KOTC AllStar
game and didn't let the crowd down. Definately the most
talented kids we've ever seen with our own eyes. Future
All-Americans.
All in all, King of the Court-Moomba was more than a
success, it was another stepping stone to growing the
game, influencing the city council to think about building
a court and everybody who experienced the event will
walk away inspired, with a memory for life.
Thanks to all the people involved for making it what
it was. Nike, first of all, for their solid support
and efforts, without Nike, nothing would be possible.
We'd like to thank Moomba Waterfest, for coming to us
and putting the idea forward after seeing the first
successful KOTC. Thanks to Foot Locker for their involvement
and support throughout the event. We also have to thank
REWIND Dance, The Wicked Force Breakers and Detour for
their dance shows, this was one of the tournament highlights
and we hope to grow a partnership with REWIND for years
to come. Thanks to all the KOTC Crew/Staff who made
the tournament run smoothly. Including Terry the MC,
The DJs and all the volunteers who put their hand up
at the opportunity to help MSF move forward.
But the most important people to thank are you guys,
the players and the fans. Your support and involvement
made this event. We hope to see you all back at the
next King of the Court... Stay tuned. Until then, keep
giving it all to ball.
