WE ARE MSF

Our passion is to promote basketball and create new opportunities for everybody to experience the game. Our focus is to lead change and inspire others to make a difference - on and off the court. We represent the Australian basketball community.
WHAT WE DO
Through our life-long passion for basketball and with MSF as the platform, we have been able to achieve many of our greatest goals for the game.

Through MSF, we have been fortunate to reach 1000's of people at our King of the Court events, influenced the youth with regular camps and programs, and inspired the basketball community through the MSF website and Hoopcity magazine.

With the support and unity that MSF stands for - and through perseverence, we were able to influence the facility upgrades of the famous Prahran outdoor basketball court and the Footscray YMCA stadium.

Our training program has also brought the Footscray Hawks basketball club back to life in 2012 - the same club that introduced us to the game, now with more than 50 young players representing the growing club in the West of Melbourne.

We teamed up with a world-reknowned organisation called Initiatives of Change - hosting Basketball and Life Skills camps at Phillip Island (Staying On The Ball), training and inspiring the minds of disadvantaged youth and passionate basketball players.

We also recently traveled throughout China in May 2012, teaming up with the Australian Basketball Academy to help with their annual basketball tour. We offered our media experience - filming and photographing the journey.

Today the MSF goals are stronger than ever. We will continue with our camps and training programs, lead positive initiatives that benefit basketball in Australia, and through our media outlet Hoopcity - we hope to inspire a generation to step up and get involved in the game.
ABOUT HOOPCITY
With a lack of positive media and exposure of basketball in Australia over recent years, we decided that if the media were not going to give one of Australia's most played sports its due respect, instead of complaining about it - we needed to step up and create our own media.

With our background in Multimedia, Journalism and Video Production, we decided to combine our skills with our passion - resulting in the birth of Hoopcity. Read More >>

David Coles
General Manager & Co-Founder of MSF

David is the creator behind MSF. Driven by his passion for basketball and promoting the game in Australia, David has continued to lead the MSF mission since 2002.

While initiating petitions to build courts and get basketball back on free-to-air TV, David has also been a regular basketball journalist featured in publications; Out4Fame, Acclaim, Handle and MVP (UK).

Throughout the MSF basketball camps and training programs, David has played an influential role as a coach and mentor to the youth. He also played a key role in bringing the Footscray Hawks basketball club back to life - the same club that the MSF team first started playing basketball together at the age of 10.

With the MSF family currently growing and the original team getting the ball rolling again - it's an exciting time for MSF moving forward.

Andre Gorgievski
Multimedia Manager & Co-Founder of MSF

Andre is the Co-Founder of MSF, having initiated the first project with David in 2002 while sharing a passion for developing basketball.

He led the drive for many community initiatives - including the upgrade of the Prahran Park outdoor basketball court. Andre led the petition; from the constant phone calls to the meetings, eventually influencing the council to go ahead with the upgrade.

Andre is also recognised as a respected basketball player. When the AND1 Team toured Australia in 2007, before they played at Melbourne's Vodafone Arena, they played a game against Melbourne's best street players at Prahran park. They needed to select one player to invite into the big game. When Andre (who was filming at the time) saw that no-one was really challenging the AND1 players, he decided to put down the camera and step on the court. AND1's player "Silk" just scored and was about to call the game off - however Andre didn't get a chance to play, so he called "Silk" out and said "It's not Game Over - It's my turn!". This started a 1-on-1 full court battle. 500 local fans surrounded the Prahran basketball court (the same court that Andre helped influence the council to upgrade just 12 months earlier). First time down the court and Andre scored on "Silk". The crowd errupted with support.

Afterwards, Andre was selected to play in the big game at Vodafone. In front of 5,000 Melbourne fans, Andre scored 4 points in limited court time. It just goes to show what can be achieved when you show heart and represent the MSF spirit.

While being a passionate activist and player of the game, Andre's number one talent is Video Production and Film-making. He studied film in California and had short films selected as finalists at international film festivals, while also producing videos for MSF and Hoopcity over the years - including a job for ESPN. You will be seeing a lot more of Andre's work moving forward with MSF.
